The History of MCCI ....

HISTORY

Miller Construction Company enjoys a rich history in the line construction industry. The founder, Gordon C. Miller, started his career as a telephone lineman and formed his own company during the Great Depression. In 1939, during the height of Roosevelt’s New Deal, he incorporated the present powerline company with Patrick Size.

During World War II, the company was a subcontractor for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to build over 2,000 miles of communication lines from Edmonton, Alberta, Canada to Fairbanks, Alaska. This project not only secured America’s defenses, but also increased the stature of Miller Construction Company from a small Rural Electric Association contractor to one large enough to bid on jobs for Indiana’s utilities just in time for the World War II boom in suburban expansion.

Miller construction’s growth is also tied to America’s entry to the space program. In the late 1950’s, MCCI ran power lines through the Florida swamps to help bring power to Cape Canaveral.

Today the family’s third generation keeps the company strong by constructing and maintaining distribution and transmission lines for public utilities, REA’s, municipalities and commercial plants in a multi-state area. Emphasizing safety and quality, the company’s greatest asset is a solid, conscientious workforce of IBEW lineman and equipment operators.
